Well thanks to Jack at Seven Enterprises, I now have lightened my wallet by several hundred dollars. The good news is that I'm now expecting a large shipment of parts. Hopefully some of them can repair my problems

Well I've had a moment to search around the internet and do some investigating on the Mini. I believe the broken tube that was coming out of the carb and connected to the distributor, is called a vacuum advance house. I also think the tube that is connected to the carb that goes to nowhere is some sort of breather tube...although I could be wrong.
The mystery rattle IS the brake dust shield (woo-hoo I got something right). I checked it out and the damn thing snapped right off it's two mounts. The minor oil leak has developed into a pretty major leak. I'm hoping the seal on the oil filter has just rotted from being on the car for a long time. I'd also like to get rid of the nasty sound deadening that is on the firewall. It's hideous and probably not doing anything. I think it's time to order some parts. Well now that I've got some day light, here are some of my first impressions.
Overall I'm psyched. It's in really good shape, although it's not without its issues. It was struggling to get to my house, although I'm thinking that is mostly because it hasn't been driven in a long time. I've made a list of things I'm going to need to repair shortly:
Well I was never expecting it, but sure enough, there is a Mini for sale not 15 minutes from me. I always thought that I would have to import one from across the pond or tow it back from the west coast. It seems to tick all the boxes:
